Some people on this list disagree with me, however, I find the M
75~150 zoom to be rather soft at the short and long ends of its
focal range. From 75m - 90mm or so, and from about 135mm -
150mm, I find the sharpness and detail to be unacceptable,
although I am comparing it to prime lenses in similar focal
lengths. The mid range is OK, but not particularly great. I
suppose that, if you want a zoom, this one is OK, but I am not
thrilled with it for critical work. It's probably fine for
portraits as it covers the range of "portrait lenses" quite
nicely, and it's not overly sharp, which many people seem to
prefer for portrait work.

It's a "one touch" zoom, which means that you can focus and zoom
using just the focusing ring, and that's a feature I like very
much. Many zooms require that you focus and zoom separately. A
down side, if you are using graduated or polarizing filters, is
that the barrel rotates, making the use of such filters a little
more time consuming and complicated, especially when using the
built-in hood. The built-in hood is very short, and doesn't
afford that much protection from flare and the elements.
However, using the metal hood for the Takumar 105/2.8 fixes the
problem, and allows easier use with the polarizing filters, as
you can adjust the filter by just holding or rotating the lens
hood. The hood for the Takumar 135/3.5 seems to work well,
too, but may cause vignetting at the shortest focal length when
the lens is used with a thick polarizing filter.

The lens certainly falls into a nice, useable focal range, and
although I'm not as enthusiastic about it as some people, I
don't think I'd give it up either. It's worth having,
especially for portrait use.
