I sort of agree, Bob, but I would say that the very high sharpness starts at f/8. The two 55/1.8 samples I've had (and I still have one of 'em) were/are only average through f/5.6, but then became super-sharp ~all-of-a-sudden~ at f/8 and above - sort of a "schizophrenic lens design", I'd say.
