You asked about using the cartridges until they go dry. Epson specifically advises against this. A charity I work with used the carts in its Photo EX until they went dry as a matter of course. After about 2 years, the heads needed replacing. Maybe linked, maybe not. If using full page prints, it is quite annoying for the cart to run out just at the end of the sheet.
