Did I get people's attention?

I attended a holiday gathering at a local alternative school - a couple of
foundation boards that I am on do a bit of work with them and has for over
15 years, but I digress.

The photographer for the event - also teaches there and has been published
nationally - came over when I arrived and mentioned that she had brought her
newly acquired Nikon DSLR D100 with her and asked if I would like to check
it out. She was shooting print film that was provided to her for the event
in her F100.

She then asked if I would like to shoot candids for her, for fun. She knew
that I had used both a D1X and D1H before. She also commented that I looked
naked without a camera!

It was a small gathering and I ended up taking only 45 shots. It was hard
having to accept the camera with the settings in place and no manual. The
most annoying was having the LCD come on after every shot. I tend to
disable that feature when I use digital. I may look at the first shot to
make sure there is nothing I may be overlooking that would effect exposure.
I cannot understand the 'advantage' of inspecting every shot and deleting as
one is shooting - to each their own. I prefer to do the editing
post-shooting.

Anyway, it just stressed the one thing I truly dislike about shooting DSLRs.
Their size. She did not have a strap on the camera. She usually has a
Stroboframe on them and thus carries the camera with it. When I discussed
it with her afterwards she commented that she usually carries her cameras
with the stroboframe and would not necessarily notice the larger grip in
some instances. Well, by the end of the evening I was feeling the strain
between my index finger and my thumb. I will definitely have to take this
into consideration when the Pentax DSLR comes out.

I was not really able to do much of a comparison between the D100 and the
D1X and D1H due to shooting in a low-light conditions and not being able to
try the different settings. That will have to wait until later.
