I have done this.  I was interested in selling my Pentax 1.7X AF Telextender
but not interested in waiting for an auction.  I found an ebay auction of
the same item that was ending.  Afterwards the auction closed I sent an
offer to the second high bidder offering the same item in excellent
condition for the lst bid they made on ebay.  Turns out the deal did not
work, but for other reasons...  Nothing shady or illegal or immoral about
it.
