As I said, I've used that feature only a pair of times, and I don't know
if my memory serves me right. When my Z-1 has no film in, I'll try to
check it, and I'll tell you what I find out.

It's easy, but not as easy as in a Z-1p. You start by using the Hyper
Manual mode in your Z-1, and then you set the aperture and shutter speed
(1/250 or slower), by using the + or - indicators in the viewfinder, or
if you want a faster way, by pressing the IF button at the back of the
camera. Then, you press the exposure compensation button, and dial the
flash compensation you want. Sometimes I find it slow, as you have to
reset the exposure compensation to zero, and start all the process again
when you want to take several pictures using flash compensation in
changing light conditions.
This compensation will affect only the flash output.
I hope my explanation is more or less clear. If you want any more
details, please feel free to ask, and I'll answer them as well as I can.
