Hi PXers,

First of all, can I thank those listers that responded very kindly with
helpful suggestions regarding buzzing sounds emanating from a Motor Drive
MX attached to a NiCad Pack LX. Your input was superb and I've now found
the problem.

For anyone interested, I opened up the NiCad Pack, according to the
excellent instructions from Rob Studdert's site at:

http://www.ozemail.com.au/~distudio/lxnicdpack.html

and inside I found a right old dog's dinner. One of the NiCad cell-packs
had been -hastily - replaced in the past and was rattling around loose
anyway. Putting a multimeter across all the cell-packs revealed that
although all were showing healthy voltage, one of them was showing next
to no amperage, two were mediocre, and the replaced pack was okay.

My local Radio Shack couldn't source me the right sized replacement
cells, seems that 1/3 AF isn't easily available to them in the right amp
range. The one cell-pack that had been previously replaced was a
Panasonic unit, so I traced their spare parts centre and ordered the only
suitable sized NiCads.

These are 3.6 volt, 300mAh units (3 in a pack) with solder tags. Four of
them gives me 14.4 volts, and my father (a retired electronics engineer)
tells me that the 300mAh will do no harm. I'll find out soon enough - my
order arrives in a couple of days.

The part number is PQXA36ASVC and are UKP 7.50 each. Direct order line is
01280 823 523 (UK telephone) if this helps anyone.

Cheers,

Cotty
