Glenn,

I have also had an occasion or two when the batteries have died.
The most recent I have told here already when photographing some monks going
to disperse the sand from their Mandala into the bay. We were walking
backwards taking shots when the meter on my LX stopped working. I just
turned to my photographer friend Shirley and asked what ASA she was shooting
and her readings. I can still remember the other photographers' faces when
they realized that without batteries I was still getting my shots. I think
I was the only one who was not whirring away with an AF lens or a winder. A
couple of photographers asked about the LX later when all the shooting was
over. I gladly showed it off with a big smile on my face.

So really though I did have extra batteries, always do, there are
times when you cannot spare the moments to change them. Though when I
usually start one of my 'assignments' (I am not a pro) I try to make sure
that the battteries are fresh.

There is something nice about the mechanicals. Two weekends ago I
was testing out a 35mm f2.8 on an SV. It was enjoyable to me to have a
light meter and set up the camera.
