Howdy, folks, A fellow at work yesterday asked me about the relationship between the ISO/ASA rating of a film or digital sensor and its dynamic range. I told him I didn't have any idea (because I don't) but I'd check around. You folks are part of "around". :-)
My intuition tells me that there are actually two relationships here: the theoretical one and the practical one. That is, even if higher ISO/ASA theoretically leads to greater dynamic range, the practicality of the situation is that the additional noise probably swamps any additional range pretty quickly.
