Christian, I use the third party cord others have mentioned and a gizmo that tilts the flash. I mount the cord on the hotshoe, then the gizmo, then the other end of the cord, then the flash (usually a TTL lighter than the AF280T) on the gizmo. This puts the flash higher and you can tilt the gizmo and straighten out the flash, putting it pretty much at the John Shaw position for horizontal framing. No grip required. For verticals, I use a very cheap grip made for videocams, and tilt it towards the lens. I try to take horizontals, though, so I don't have to hassle with a grip.
