I used just Scotch Magic tape, it's a very nice diffusor that doesn't eat much light. Gives perfectly smooth illumination when the diffusor is about 0.5cm from the LED. t> Used darkroom stuff is plentiful and cheap. And getting cheaper now that many folks go digital. Still, a 1-2$ super-safe darkroom light can't be beaten :) I just screwed the led into an old flashlight for two AAs, the cathode and anode make good contact even without soldering just by using aluminium foil.
