So I guess the large ring must be part of the microprism system, and in this case a 
'down-side' part? All manual cameras with microprisms have got this large ring, so I 
figure it's just part of it.

Someone else got any facts? Now I'm curious also.

Ow, and about what is a nice manual cam... I love my KX and like my K2 (although the 
latter is not as nice as the KX), but if you don't need the microprism, a more modern 
MZ has got quite a bright viewfinder.
