I'll check into it, thanks fo rthe tip. I started to hunt down updates for
her machine, and then decided I didn't feel like doing it that night via
dialup.

Unfortuantly, its a cheap Emachines something or another. Fortuantly, they
appear to use off the shelf components for the most part. Also,
fortuantly, it was a gift she didn't pay for so I don't have to feel bad
that it may be junk.

I'm one of those people who used to swear by painstakingly building each
machine by hand, from parts picked to exact specifications. I'm not sure
if I've managed to lose that obsession, yet, as I haven't looked into
upgrading my machine in about two years now (which is definatly a change
from the Old Me).

It does have the Intel roothub, which is one plus I already noted.

Bing! It'll completely reset the machine with not a second of hesitation
when it recognizes the USB mounted drive. SOmething else causes errors
when connected, but I can't figure out the "error message" that it
generates, mainly because I don't speak ML. :)

Its listed as the XP driver, and its "signed" FWIW.

I dunno, it just throws itself to a hot start. I wonder, though, based on
that if its not so much the OS that's freaking out but the hardware
itself. I never gave it so much though..til now.
