This question wasn't directed at me but I'm going to follow the long standing traditions of the internet and answer it anyway (despite my questionable qualifications). some rules that are generally good to follow but can also be broken to good effect: never place an out of focus object in the foreground (especially a bright one) never place your subject in the center of the frame out of focus highlights in the background should be avoided never take landscape pictures at noon during the summer rules is probably the wrong word for these. how about suggestions or recommendations? Mike, you have to admit that the photographs of many neophytes and casual photographers would be improved if they followed them. Many people look at their vacation pictures and are disappointed with the results. The rules were written to help those people take better photographs. Tom Reese
