mmmmmmm.. For portrait length (70mm-135mm) I love f4 or at most f5.6 For "normal" - I miss using my 50mm f1.4 and since it's the new year I think I should re-invest in an "older" K mount camera.
I usually don't shoot anything longer than 135mm but if I did, I would think f4 would be fine there too. Does anyone have a favorite f/stop? Or, since an f/stop's "look" varies with focal length, a favorite f/stop for a given focal length? I seem to be shooting a lot at f/2.0 or f/2.8, regardless of setting or focal length (between 20 and 200mm). Here's why: Outdoors, I like to blur the background to isolate my subject matter. If the subject is moving, I'll go with f/4 or f/5.6 to buy more depth of field in case my focus misses. Indoors without flash, I need a wide aperture to keep my shutter speed reasonably high. Indoors with flash, I prefer a wide aperture to get a mix of flash and ambient light. I've read that we "see" at f/5.6. Has anyone ever heard of photographers who will shoot only at f/5.6 because they want to be "truthful"? [EMAIL PROTECTED]
