I'm, sorry, but I don't know anything about your education that wasn't admitted here. If you go back
a couple of generations in this thread you will find that Marnie stated that he had never heard
of the rule of thirds or the Golden Mean, or Section as it is often referred to. Marnie even went
as far as to say the they never covered either of these "rules" in the courses that had to do with
"doing" art, and they weren't in any drawing books. In my experience both these statements are wrong. If I remember correctly, and I went back and checked, you agreed with him, and said that "rules" of composition were dismissed with contempt. I don't know how you can "do" art unless you understand something about composition, if the entire coverage on the subject you received in the course of
getting an education resulting in an BFA, boils down to "there are no rules" you were cheated.
I draw my conclusions from that.
I've seen your photography and read your writing, you're obviously good at what you do, it's not you or for that matter Marnie I have an issue with. Yes, I did split an initiative there, I just, sometimes, perhaps of'times ignore them.

How do you know anything about the quality of my art school education? Did you attend yourself? Have you studied art school curricula or observed classes? Are you up on current didactic methodologies and educational strategies? And would you care to match your knowledge of "what others have done in the past" in the field of photography against mine? I have a nice little photography quiz I've developed for hotshots like you, so be careful how you answer this. I'll warrant that I was prepared as well for my field as well as you were prepared for yours. There is a lot that can be criticized in education in every field, and certain fields, like art, lend themselves less well to formal education than certain others. But that's no excuse to dismiss the whole endeavor and insult those who undertook it. Of course, in your next paragraph, you also dismiss most of the art of the past century, so I guess I see where you're coming from. <g> --Mike
