I would guess because of the vagaries of magazine reproduction. It's a funny
game--there's really not a lot of control over it. At least I didn't ever
feel I had much more than rudimentary control of repro at _PHOTO
Techniques_. Also, I once had a chance to compare one of Bill Eggleston's
books with a box full of the original prints the plates were made from. It
was pretty instructive. The book reproductions weren't very close.
