If possible, I would take her outside. Use some 800 speed color film, preferably NPZ. For b+w, use some Neopan 1600 or TMZ. 400 speed films may work too. Find some soft ground, and an angle that has a non-distracting background. Have your wife position her pointing towards the camera, then have her (wife) walk back to where you are. Her job is to get the child's attention, and have her look in the direction of the camera, as well as walk in your direction. Alternatively, your wife could be out of the frame ready to catch her as she falls, but the girl will probably walk towards her. That's what the soft ground is for. Pre-focus some distance in front of her, hopefully where she'll end up walking. When she gets to that point, shoot. Be prepared to do this until the child gets bored. Vary your f-stop a bit. Be prepared for a low percentage of keepers. I personally wouldn't bother with the flash unless you have to do it inside, or you want/need some fill. tv
