Marketing hype, and little else.
I wouldn't pay a hell of a lot of attention to it.
My old Tokina 35-105 zoom was identical to the Minolta MD one,
except for the lens bezel. Mine said Tokina, the Minolta one
said Minolta.
Not calling anyone a liar here, but if it walks like a duck, and
quacks.....
