No. I used to own both; I sold the Kiron. While both used floating elements, focus to 12 inches (0.3 m), and were made by Kino Precision Optical, The 12-ounce Vivitar 28/1.9 (1978) uses a 58mm filter and produces color pictures that have much more beautiful and saturated colors than the 9-ounce Kiron 28/2 (1980). The Vivitar's optical formula was 9 elements in 8 groups; the Kiron's, 8 elements in 8 groups. The Kiron was followed by a Vivitar 28/2 (1983) that had identical optical and mechanical specs. Some say it was nearly as good as the 28/1.9. If so, it had to have improved over the Kiron's lackluster colors. The Kiron is just as sharp, however. Both suffer from noticeable (but not untypical) barrel distortion, and the Vivitar vignettes wide open. [EMAIL PROTECTED]
