Correcting the editor (laugh), Enormously serious attempt!
This is something I really wanted to do for a time. Correcting an editor!!!! I just got back a manuscript from an editor... who which what well.... Dear Sir, You keep coming away from the subject by referring to linguists when in fact you were talking about english. Please keep to the subject (smile.. Cheers Mike and keep it up. P.S. The only way for a non-native speaker (except studying) is actually to be corrected sometimes. Otherwise one do the same silly mistakes over and over again or as someone though when they heard my awful English "you gottta come from Texas". Reason (sorry Texanians, they have an awful pronounciation there. Cheers, Ronald > Dare I ask? What the hell brought THAT on? Nothing in particular. These mini-rants are always simmering in my head, just below the surface. Every now and then I let one escape. They don't need any particular provocation; in fact, sometimes it's better that way. Avoids offending any specific person. (Who likes having his English corrected? Especially since, by definition, anyone on this list who speaks two or more languages is a better linguist than I.) Want to hear another one? Just kidding. <g> --Mike
