I guess we all have those days when nothing goes right.
I had a call from the camera shop about the K2 I'd sent in for repair. The
shutter sounds like it's exposing two stops longer than the meter reading
indicates when in "auto" mode (eg if the needle points to "2 seconds" the
shutter opens for 8). When set manually it's spot-on.
The repair tech told the shop (who then called me) that the shutter and
mirror assembly needs repair. I told them that's bullshit: there's nothing
wrong with the shutter. I'm now waiting to hear back from them. I just wish
I'd had the sense to check the light meter itself before sending the camera
away as I'm suspecting this as being the cause of the problem.
Today has been the only sunny day since I've had the 43mm on loan from
the distributor, except Saturday when I was busy shooting the biking and
couldn't do a lens test (except for using the 43 as part of the shooting).
The moment I stepped out the door from work, the clouds had started rolling
in. I managed to get home in time to use the last of the light for a quick flare
test, then went shooting in the Botanical Gardens under an overcast sky. I
did a few shots to check bokeh, contrast and distortion but most of the time I
didn't have enough light to stop the lens down for an "f/8" resolution test.
I have to return the lens tomorrow, hopefully the weather will be better :)
Cheers,
- Dave
