Matt's point is well-taken. Some time ago, a politician used the adverb
"niggardly" in its rightful sense: stingy. Unfortunately, a number of black
Americans mistakenly thought he used a form of the N-word, and would accept
nothing short of an apology, even when informed of their etymological error.
