I don't agree with JCO here. To completely disassemble and re-assemble most lenses is something an experienced repairman that has the tools (collimator etc.) can do very well. A zoom requires much more time but to clean a simple lens (and a well built one) such as the 120mm is certainly an easy job that can be done with the same precision in a good repairshop than at Pentax in Japan. (A mirror lens is another case though.) I'm talking about repairmen that have credentials, I mean authorized and trained by at least one good manufacturer. For example, the best repairman in Quebec City has been trained by Hasselblad and is also an "authorized repairman" for Contax/Yashica, Broncolor and a few more brands. It means that Pentax UNDER WARRANTY have to go to AMT in Montreal. But this guy in Quebec City can actually do a better job on Pentax stuff than AMT technicians simply because he's better at it in a general way. At the Pentax authorized shop, many pieces (especially a simple lens) would likely be done by a newbie.Who's to say the technician will get the lens properly precision re-assembled to factory specs? I wouldnt trust it at all...No frickin' way....The last thing I would ever want to shoot with is a "re-assembled" lens unless MAYBE, just MAYBE, if it was a current model and was repaired at the same factory where they were currently being built and tested.
