Much better than buying a spotmeter would be to buy a few books on the Zone System. It's the principles that matter, not the execution. Once you understand the principles you can apply the understanding to all kind of metering. A good place to start would be to first read Fred Picker's _The Zone VI Workshop_ and then follow it with Ansel Adams's _The Negative_. If you want to proceed from there, the natural book would be Phil Davis's _Beyond the Zone System_. Those three books would be a much better investment than a spotmeter IMHO. Especially if you use 35mm. --Mike
