Mark, I shot with the MZ-5N at temperatures as low as -20 degrees C with alkaline batteries, and the shutter speeds were dead on despite the motor whining. On the only other occasion when the batteries died on me, every single exposure up to the last one was precise. I'm positive the cause wasn't the batteries in your case. Servus, Alin
