Hmmm... Several pics of mine were in the last two of my high school yearbooks, and a couple were in my university newspaper, but I wouldn't count either of those instances.
I've only had two pics published "for real". And, no, I didn't get paid for them either. Two shots of Gilles Villeneuve (Jacques' father) were published in a Grand Prix of Canada special supplement that appeared in the National Post a couple of years back. The National Post is a Canada-wide daily newspaper. An old friend of mine is an editor of the Automotive section of that paper, and was in charge of putting together the GP supplement. A few months prior to that issue, I sent him a couple pics that I took at a Grand Prix from the early 70's that we'd gone to together (I'd just bought my scanner, and I thought he might enjoy them). He asked if he could use them, but told me that non-staff photographers don't get paid. I said "sure"! They weren't great shots, to be sure, but I guess they were what they needed (one portrait, taken through a fence, and one in his Ferrari). So far, my only published shots, but at least they were widely published. And, I got credit! It was pretty cool, looking below the photos, seeing "National Post photgraph by Frank Theriault" <g> cheers, frank Collin Brendemuehl wrote: > What was your first published photograph? > > Mine was some b&w work for Prison Ministries in Omaha, taken in maximum > security. > Just something for the brochure. > About the same time I did some for Wayne Alderson & his union/management > seminars. > Again, just something for the brochure. > And, I didn't get paid for either one. > Gotta start somewhere, I guess. > > Collin -- "Honour - that virtue of the unjust!" -Albert Camus
