I haven't read this whole thread, but I'll offer a bit of what I know from having
experimented with a wide range of C-type nicads. A battery of a given designation with
more milliamp hours (mAh) will last longer, but voltage is virtually the same as
another battery with the same designation but a lower mAh rating. In fact, sometimes
the higher rated batteries produce slightly less voltage. I doubt that a battery with
a higher mAh rating would damage a device as long as voltage was the same or lower
than the original equipment battery. However, some of the higher rated batteries that
I have encountered in other applications have thinner, more fragile casings and are
more susceptible to leakage.

Thanks Len, Terrance ...

I checked a site on NiMH batteries and discovered that there are
numerous AA cell options, with power output ranging from 1300 mAh to
about 1700 mAh. Would the more powerful batteries damage the
winders in any way, considering that they were designed for standard
AA batteries which, it seems, have their power at the lower end of
the scale?

If the more powerful batteries are acceptable for use in the winders
- specifically the MX, ME II, and LX winders - would the winders
operate a little faster, i.e., more fps, than with standard
batteries?
