Far from it (have you used a digital camera yet?). What this refers to is that in replay mode, you can view nine frames at once on the LCD screen, which greatly speeds up editing and reviewing, and the 12X display is for magnifying the image on the LCD screen so you can check details (like blinks in a group portrait, say) and focus accuracy. These two features are indispensable on any digital camera, but _especially_ on a digital SLR meant for more serious photographers. They're certainly not gimmicks. --Mike
