I suspect Pentax stuck with AA's to seem more accessible, but I personally
find AA's to be the worst possible way to power a camera.  I'd much rather
see a rechargeable lithium-ion battery like Nikon has for their D-100.
Those have no memory effect (unlike any rechargeable AA out there), and
can have a huge capacity.  Look at Canon's BP-511 for their G3, or Sony's
FM-50 for their 717.  The trade-off is that those are proprietary
batteries, but I'd rather just pick up a spare or two than have to worry
about bringing along 12 AA's and changing them every couple of hours.
