Since equivalancy seems to be the confusing part, lets base the comparison
on the 35mm field of view, as easy to relate to.
The 300mm focal length on the 6x7 "sees" the same field of view (more or
less) as a 150mm lens does on 35mm.
The same 300mm focal length "sees" things equivalent to what a 450mm lens
would  see on 35mm.
The 300mm focal length is a short telephoto on 6x7, a medium telephoto on
35mm, and a long telephoto on the APS sized sensor (I think the sensor is
somewhat smaller than APS).
Butch gave a most excellent description the other day.
