Pentax has to be more aggressive in their pricing of the *ist D. If $1600 is the list price and street is about $1300 as noted here; people are apt to choose the 10D as the Canon system is now in its 3rd generation (D30, D60 now 10D) where as the Pentax is first generation.
Pentax must be as agressive as possible if they are expecting to capture new sales and new owners to the brand - otherwise - those fence sitters may just end up in the Canon camp.
