is really a relative simple problem:
The sensors are not yet a commodity.
Demand is higher than production.

While we're at it, one complaint about the *istD is that it's not unique
enough.
In essence, film cameras are all the same in this respect also.
Some meter differently than others.
Some a/f systems are faster.
UI difference also account for the minor differences.
But they all take pictures.

I think the DSLR market just hasn't discovered what's needed to accompish
it this scary new world.
There's no "1-2-3" killer solution yet.
Be patient.
It will come and our credit cards will follow.
