Canon "L" lenses are damn good in their own right. Canon ultra "L" lenses, 
(300mm and up)  ~ALL~ now have IS, which makes your statement a little self 
serving.
If you are near or in a large city, go to a major camera strore, let them 
hold your plastic and take an IS lens for a spin.
