I've certainly never seen one, except for the "1-2 stops" general guideline. More of a matter of trying it to see. It's all about f-stops. :-) On a non-TTL flash setup, with an auto flash, you either change the setting on the flash or the aperture setting on the camera, so that the flash is firing for an aperture that is one or two stops more open than the lens is actually set for.
