Hi Gang:
Well, I've been following the latest of Pentax's
new *ist D digital camera. I certainly would have
liked to save my money 'til the release of this camera
later this year. But I just had my first baby and I
needed a new digital fast! I am soooooooooo tired of
the wait and expense of film processing. Ive just
about had it with 35mm.
I did my research and picked the Fuji FinePix
S602 digital camera. This is a very good camera, but,
of course, it has no Pentax mount so I cant use all
my wonderful Pentax lenses :o( The Fuji really is a
great camerait even takes movies! Only
disappointment: sporadic artifacts in images, even
when I take pictures in uncompressed TIFF mode (These
uncompressed files are huge (18 MB) but this is OK
since I splurged on a 1 GB IBM microdrive which this
camera can use.)
This Fuji has a third generation CCD so I really
dont understand why I am getting these artifacts. I
expect to be able to produce poster sized prints for
the price I paid. Thats what I want. I thought it
might be a defective camera but I researched and found
that these artifacts are normal in a pro-sumer level
digital camera. So my question to you guys is: do you
think that the new Pentax *ist D with its Philips CCD
sensor will do better with regard to artifacts? If
so, I will beg, borrow and steal to get the camera.
If not, Ill hold off until Pentax produces the next
generation. All comments appreciated.
