You're right Mafud, when I pick up the backup PZ-1p that does not have the grip unit 
on it, it doesn't "feel" right, like a totally different camera. Which is why I'll get 
another, no matter the cost (unless Microcraft does decide to market their battery 
pack.)  But, if I can find it cheaper than B&H's price, I'll get it there. Thus, I 
toss out my inquiry to the group, to see if anyone knows more than I before I plunk 
down my money.

Have you ever missed a shot because you did not have a Grip attached? Ever 
switched over to the gripless PZ-1p and felt that awkward, "out of balance" 
moment? 
That's why you want and need it. 
As to cost? You could get more on eBay with a grip* attached than without one.
*You shouldn't underestimate the "cool" factor of any camera wearing a 
Grip/vertical release. 
MZ-S without VG/booter? A 35mm SLR camera.
MZ-S ~with~ VG/booster? COOL.
