Oops, I forgot to mention a couple of things regarding the MZ-S body I was
shown.
First I've totally omitted comments on the shutter-lag (or lack thereof!).
I found the shutter button to be similar in nature to the LX's. The first
stage for focusing was, however, quite sensitive; in fact there seemed to be
very little throw to focus and took a little getting used to. The second
stage to fire the shutter seems to have more resistance than we've seen in
AF bodies until now and I really liked it. This is where it reminds me of
the LX. I found the button to be very responsive when actually being fired.
I didn't notice any significant shutter lag and it felt very definite when
pressed; no uncertainty as to when the shutter was going to fire. It was
certainly better than other MZ cameras, but I'm not sure compared to my Z-1p
because of the different characteristics. I believe it will be a dream to
use when giving focusing function solely to the "AF" button on the back and
only using the shutter button for firing the shutter. From what I saw in
the store, I think I am going to be most happy with this camera.
In regards to the exposure-mode selection, I am quite pleased. I use Manual
& Aperature Priority almost all the time and they were kind enough to group
these two together! I was thinking that by using the "Hold" slider to lock
in exposure info (is it only shutter speed?) and using the regular exposure
compensation function, it may be easier then before to get "flash exposure
compensation" but I don't know if the slider switch only locks in shutter
speed or if it works on aperature as well in shutter priority. :OP
Anyhow, those are my initial impressions.
