I think all these lenses broke in this fashion. I bought one
last year with that problem (I just tore it to bits and used
some of its electrical contacts to fix the SMC-F 70-210 I
bought). Keep this in mind if you're ever tempted to buy one:
even if it's in working condition at the time of purchase it may
not stay that way for long.
