Ok , what I was taught doing my city and guilds commercial photography in 1969 was that the goal is to meter for the end result..........................therfore if the finished product is a print [viewed by reflected light ] then to calcualte exposure using areflected light method [grey card, zone system etc. all are based on the perceived apperance of a mid-tone in a print..............] If of course the end product is viewed by transmitted light [a transparency] then the perceived apprance of the most important higlight is the goal and therfore a maesurement using transmitted [incident] light id the key, as in this case the meter is measuring the light transmitted THROUGH the incident dome/invercone etc.] Makes sense I think!!
