This is the problem that forced me first to shift to slide film, then
secondly to scanning and printing my own. If I shoot color neg, I will
let a good local lab process and print the roll. I consider these prints
to be proofs. I take the best, then scan, manipulate, and print them myself.
I understand that manufacturers went to films and papers with higher
saturation and contrast because so many negatives coming from
point-and-shoot cameras were underexposed.
