In Ethiopia there is one train, which shuttles between Addis Ababa and Djibouti, stopping on the way at a few one-camel rail halts to pick up more flies. One of my friends is an Ethiopian who left the country during the red terror and eventually found his way to Geneva. He decided that he'd like to live in Paris, and would get a train there. Being Ethiopian he was only used to there being one train, so when he got to Geneva station he saw a train, got on it, and fell asleep. When he woke up he was in Marseilles. Despite his considerable intelligence it had never occurred to him that there was more than one train, and more than one destination. The other extreme is India, where the rail service is fantastic. Apart from when the carriages are set on fire by terrorists, that is. -- Cheers, Bob mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
