Actually, I believe, www is the name of the webserver. That is standard on Unix type systems and will automatically fire up Apache (the standard webserver deamon). You do not have to have a pointer on the Name Server, but you do have to have one in the hosts file of the Unix system your the Name Server points to. On Windows systems, who the hell knows?
