After all, manufacturers from Chinon to Zeiss where presenting mockups of such backs since the eighties, and I'd really like to know why nobody ever did it. REPLY: It may make sense for Leica to make a digital back solution. For those users $4500 might even be considered value for money! From a technical point of view such a camera is nothing but a bastard. I believe the concept is weird too. It demands that the users will want to use both film and digital on the same body to make sense. I believe that the vast majority switch to digital in order to get away from film! It is more cost effective to make a dedicated digital body and a dedicated film body. Then they can be engineered to what they are supposed to to. Anyway, these current digital news breaking is mostly to signalise to the market that the manufacturer have plans for digital solutions for their systems. I for one expect Minolta soon to disclose their DSLR. Pl
