Hi Marnie, It is quite clear that the Leica R8 and R9 were designed from the ground up to be BOTH film AND digital cameras. This back is not some half-baked add-on accessory, it is an intrinsic part of the Leica R8/R9 system. That seems to me like good design *and* good engineering. John
