Paul, Although I visit Spain several times a year, I've never been to either ... ... but I was planning to take a trip to the Alicante area a few years ago and remember that there is a narrow gauge railway that serves the coast. It is modern and has a frequent service, so would be a good way of visiting many places along the coast without having to battle along the congested and dangerous main coast road - the N340, which is said to be one of the longest "accident black spots" in Europe.
