The last K-mount Kiron 24/2 that I've located was in October 2000: Condition 8+, 180 Cdn (about $118), at http://camera-traders.com (8.5) 16OCT00. I own an SMC 24/2.8 and am extremely impressed by its color, saturation, contrast, detail, and control of distortion. Still, when camera-traders posted one for sale, I was sorely tempted to acquire the Kiron, for it was the only manual-focus 24/2, and while I would never shoot a 24 wide open, I felt that the f/2 would help me focus. So I quickly ordered the Amateur Photographer review from Old-Timers in the UK. Quite honestly, the review changed my mind. The editors were not impressed with any of the 24s they tested for that issue, the Kiron included. None, they concluded, were up to the 24/2.8 primes made by the major camera manufacturers. I have the issue's test photos, and the Kiron 24/2's edge detail was conspicuously lacking, IMO. Think about it: The 24/2 used the same filter size (55mm) as the 28/2. Usually, that spells compromise. Paul Franklin Stregevsky [EMAIL PROTECTED] W: (703) 834-4648 - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
