If it were my apple tree or other hard wood I certainly would have. But it's one of those Bradford pear trees that's too soft. Burns like paper.
And ... ... like so many modern homes our fireplace is for decor & not home heating. When the city chips it they either (a) use it for mulch in the local parks or (b) sell it to a composter.
