It's not quite BS. There are a few things to consider. The "lpm" numbers are irrelevant as long as it's
above the critical resolution in the final enlargment.


For 8"x10" this is (I suppose) something like 250ppi, therefore, sice 24mm is ~ 1", one needs 8*250 lines/inch ~
50 lpmm. As long as your lens resolves this in the sharp area (circle of confusion), no one will notice a difference.


OTOH, f you do make big enlargements, this modest 50lpmm requirement, can easily become 100lpmm. In this case,
the 50lpmm that presumably autofocus gives you just won't cut it. However if your lens can achieve the 100lpmm
when focused manually, you will get a sharp print, but (I suppose) the DOF will be much shallower than theoretical.
