I second Shel's praise for the 24/2.8K. When I started out building my set
of primes, I told myself, 'Each must be an A...hold out for an A." But my
local dealer had the 24/2.8K for $130, and back in Spring 1999 I had far
fewer Web URLs to find affordable As (a paradox?) So I bought the K.
The lens makes me look like a better photographer than I am. What color!
And it feels oh so nice in the hand.
Now, this one-time A devotee can count the following in his collection:
5 Ks--24/2.8, 28/2, 35/2 (next week), 105/2.8, and 135/2.5.
3Ms--35/2 (may sell now), 85/2 (should sell, but my 10-year-old daughter
seems to like the focal length), and 200/2.5M
2As--50/1.4, 70-200/4.
For the sake of comleteness, I'll name all my third-party K-mout lenses
here, too:
16/2.8 Zenitar fisheye
20/2.5 Zenitar MC (muilitcoated) Mir-47K non-fisheye (anyone interested? I
paid $200 in 1999; takes rear filters; several quotations sent on request)
28/2 Kiron (for sale, $75, with the aforementioned high-effort mount; 55mm
filters)
28/1.8 Sigma APO Aspherical II (the manual-focus version; 58mm filters)
28/1.9 Vivitar Series 1 (floating elements, 58mm filters)
105/2.8 Kiron 1:1 macro (52mm filters)
and one very special 50, which I'll write about soon.
The 50/1.4A was recently in an accident and developed a rough spot in its
focusing; I will one day replace it with the 50/1.4M.
Anyway, I consider my Ks my crown jewels. There's no believer like a
convert.
